About Me

I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Manchester with a high 2:1 and a distinction in clinical practice in 2008. Since then I have worked in a variety of settings: 7 years in the NHS as a Speech and Language Therapist and Specialist Speech and Language Therapist working with adults in the acute and community settings with experience in stroke, brain injury and progressive neurological conditions.

I also have gained a wider knowledge and skill set in stroke from working as a Support co-ordinator at a leading Neurological charity for 3 years with a focus on communication support. I have then worked in private practice as the clinical lead for NPP Neuro Group for 2 and a half years developing and managing the service and assessing and treating patients. I am now in Independent practice with specialist expertise in the assessment and management of communication and swallowing problems in adults with neurological conditions, voice disorders and developmental stammering in adults. I see patients in their own homes, or in nursing and residential homes covering the West Midlands, Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

I work in a person-centred and holistic way tailoring treatment plans to suit the specific needs of every individual.  I believe Functional approaches to be effective as suggested by the evidence base but can also use Impairment based approaches where appropriate. I identify an appropriate treatment plan through a comprehensive assessment process.

I am very passionate about the field in which I work and believe that a significant difference can be made to patients and their family’s lives using a wide variety of techniques and approaches. I make it my priority to keep my skills and knowledge up to date by attending training courses in relevant areas of interest. I am also interested in counselling which are useful within my practice and have been trained in basic counselling skills, Brief solution focussed therapy, the principles of CBT, Mindfulness and Motivational interviewing.

I have delivered training about Speech and Language Therapy, Communication and swallowing problems and strategies to health care professionals including staff nurses, health care assistants, physiotherapists, junior doctors and medical students and have provided training to patients and families and carers in communication strategies or swallowing techniques. I am registered with RCSLT, HCPC and ASLTIP professional bodies.
